Is it possible to summarize custom calculations without processing a sample set

Hi All, Im wondering is it possible to use the summarize a custom calculation function without processing a sample set. The scenario is that channels are processed individually as at times manual integration is required. I am looking to invoke a custom calculation to average areas for labelled injections, this calculation will be used in a further calculation for percent standard comparison.

Yes, you can do this but you need to ensure that the search order of the custom field is set to either Result Set First or Outside First. Then, if you are performing manual integrations on channels to generate results, you will need to select these results from the Results tab and process them again to activate the summary custom field, so in a sense you need to process them twice- once to generate the manually integrated results and then process these results together to activate the summary custom field you want. I dont think it will give a rolling summary if you are only manually generating results one by one, but im not 100% on that, maybe try it and see what results you get. 

If you arent performing manual integration, then select the samples or standards you want processed in the Injections and Channels tab, process them and then the results will generate in the Results tab. Another very important condition of the above is that you must have unique labels for the samples- i.e. labels that are not present anywhere else in the project. This is because "Result Set First" and "Outside first" will look all over a project to identify the labels you are using and you dont want already processed results to be included in your calculation.
