    LMS is Laboratory Management System- an electronic software package that removes the need for paper logbooks. You use it to log in chemicals and reagents into the database so that when you are using them, you only need to fill in the unique LMS number and all the rest of the fields auto-populate like Lot, Expiry, amount remaining, Grade etc. It can also be used to weigh out samples- instead of printing off paper balance printouts, you can prepare all your mobile phases, solutions and samples electronically. 
    It can also be used to log in columns for HPLC such that when you enter the LMS reference all the properties of the column like particle size and id etc will populate. Its a very useful tool to have in labs and really, paper records are or should be phased out as soon as possible.
