How do you do a zero volume injection on UPLC?

I want to do a trial injection but I don't want any volume withdrawn into the injector, I essentially just want to run a condition column and have the mobile phase run through the column at the gradient. Is the way to do this to do a trial injection but put 0 as injector volume? Will this damage the injector or contact the vial in any way? I want to see a scan of the mobile phase trace running through the system. Thanks.
