Error message in Sample Manger that needle 'Z-axis is not calibrated'. I calibrate Z-axis and save these data but still receive the same error message. Any ideas?

Hi MikeG - what system are you using?0

Pflan: We are using the Acquity classic system (10 years old).0

Has your Firmware been updated to the most recent release?0

Pflan: Likely not the latest, we have version 1.300

Hi MikeG and Pflan! I am actually having the same problem on a 10ish year old nanoAcquity system. A professor that I am working with had the system in her lab for a long time, but seldom used it because it had lots of problems. I decided to do her a favor since I am mechanically inclined. Did a complete overhaul, solved a lot of problems, and updated the firmware. It was working for a few days, but then I got the 'Z axis not calibrated' error. No matter how many times I try to calibrate the thing, it still pops up!0

Update: I think the battery on the sample manager is dead0

I replaced the battery on the SM board and that got rid of the problem in not retaining x,y calibration but, unfortunately not for z-calibration.1

Waters has 2 support documents on this issue:
https://support.waters.com/KB_Inst/Chromatography/WKB28509_How_to_calibrate_the_needle_Z_axis
https://support.waters.com/KB_Inst/Chromatography/WKB5781_Error_Z-axis_not_calibrated
One points to a root cause of the battery being low and the other one is instructions on how to perform a calibration. These may be useful.
