Acquity Tubing - From Column to Detector (TUV) - Proper ID and Part Number

<p><span>Does anyone know where I can find this info. My old tubing is blocked but has no identifiers on it. I've re-placed a 6" x 0.0025 inch PEEK (labelled as ASSY, Tube Inlet .0025 ID LT PEEK NUT Part Number # 430001749). Is this correct id tubing to use to connect the column to the detector? </span></p><p></p><p><span>PS. This new piece of tubing (part number 430001749) seems a bit short compared to the old tubing I had on the system!</span></p>

  • Another tube inlet 0.0025 ID PEEK nut PDA that I have is about 9 inches long. The part number is 430001783.

    The part number you mention is the same length I have if I am using my UV detector.

    I have asked to look for the correct "official" P/N, but shorter is better for dispersion and less backpressure. If your chromatography is good then should be good for now. Bear with us.

    I think the "official" tubing should be nearer to 9 inches as AnalMD has hinted above otherwise you would struggle to connect a 5cm column to the detector with the 6" length that I am currently using. This 6" tubing that I am using now just has two PEEK nut fittings

    (Note my previous tubing on the system was 10.5" but this has got blocked I think. On the column end was a movable PEEK fitting and on the detector end is a fixed stainless steel ferrule and gold nut.

    Can you check what he official part number for this tubing connection is please and determine what end fittings it should have?

  • Here is the data from GSS - the inlet to the TUV is usually 0.004"ID. The tubing PN is 430001225 - eTUV inlet tubing for analytical cell.

    Four separate part numbers are offered on tubing to connect the end of the column to the inlet of the UV cell. These are distinguished as appropriate for low flow and standard flow. The ID for the low flow tubing is 0.0025" and the ID for the standard flow tubing is 0.004". The threshold between low flow and standard flow is generally accepted to be in the neighborhood of 0.8 mL/min. to 1.0 mL/min. depending on mobile phase viscosity. The two different lengths were, historically, in support of the TUV (6" length) and the original 2996 PDA (10.5" length). However, subsequent changes in the form factor of the PDA have rendered the length distinctions less relevant. What does matter is that the chosen length of tubing is sufficiently long enough to reach from the end of the column to the inlet of the cell. This can depend on the length of the column and the type of solvent stabilizer that is installed. As Liz mentioned in an earlier post, all other things equal, the smaller the ID and the shorter the length the better the dispersive properties.

    The part numbers are as follows:

    430001749 - 6" X 0.0025" PEEK tubing (tan)

    430001748 - 6" X 0.004" PEEK tubing (black)

    430001783 - 10.5" X 0.0025" PEEK tubing (tan)

    430001784 - 10.5" X 0.0025" PEEK tubing (black)

  • Hello Rob,

    Perhaps I can help clarify, if you don't mind, Liz. The following list shows the currently available tubing assemblies. The 430001225 is a 6" long TUV tube that had a SS fitting on one end, and a PEEK lite-touch fitting on the other. This series was discontinued in favor of assemblies with 2 lite-touch PEEK fittings instead. The dispersion was unchanged, and since we are on the low pressure side of the column, these are working fine, and they are much more convenient to use. The TUV tubes are indeed 6" long while the PDA tubes are 10.50". The PDA flowcell is a bit higher and more to the right side of the chassis, so some length was added, although it seems to be more than the actual length difference. Shorter is better from a dispersion perspective, but at .0025", the difference is small, and the extra 4.5" does make hook-up easier. We have found that the .0025" is almost always used.

    430001748 Assy, Tube, TUV inlet, .004" x 6"
